Phenol peeling indications and medical aspects of the procedure

replace skin plastic surgery with deep phenol pilling replace skin plastic surgery with deep phenol pilling. But it is performed not because they finally found a panacea to fight the manifestations of age. Actually, the phenol peeling is one of many tools by means of which the surgeon achieves maximum pronounced and stable results. In this case, it is most important to assess the situation clearly and use this procedure only while being sure of the positive final result.

Phenol or carbolic acid is the main active ingredient. When phenol is applied to the problem skin areas, the interfacial layers of the epidermis are being degraded. A part of the collagen and elastin fibers breaks down. This activates the synthesis of new connective tissue structures, which have a significant qualitative superiority. uch a reconstruction of dermal layers leads to a significant reduction of skin wrinkles and skin tightening.

Indications for phenol pilling:

  • Small lines and deep wrinkles and fissures of the skin.
  • Moderate ptosis (sagging) of the skin.
  • Signs of photodegradation.
  • Focal hyperpigmentation.
  • The presence of stretch marks on the skin.
  • Interfacial skin formations and keratosis.

Contraindications to deep pilling:

  • Herpetic eruptions
  • Any skin damage located in the planned manipulation area.
  • Liver, kidney and cardiovascular pathology.
  • Pregnancy and lactation.
  • Individual hypersensitivity to phenol.
  • Predisposition to the formation of hypertrophic scars.

The procedure of deep phenol pilling

At the preliminary consultation, the doctor collects detailed history, assesses the skin properties, determines the indications for the procedure, and specifies the zones that are most important for the manipulation. It is important to properly evaluate the overall condition of the body and appoint laboratory and clinical examination, if necessary.

Just before the procedure, the skin is cleaned with a sponge and intensively treated with an antiseptic solution.

The places of deep skin pinches are scratched with a needle slightly. Phenol is applied onto the skin using a special brush. First, the area with the thickest skin is being treated (perioral area, area between the eyebrows, the forehead) and then the chemical effect is being applied onto the areas where the skin is much thinner (upper and lower eyelids, cheeks, neck).

An experienced physician evaluates the quality of frost formation (visual manifestation of epithelium chemical degradation) and repeats the application of phenol onto the areas with thick skin, if necessary. During this process, short breaks are being made between the applications of the solution onto each area. The pilling is accompanied by quite severe but short-term burning of the skin. The treatment ends with the application of the bismuthum powder onto the phenolic areas. If necessary, areas with the thickest skin are sealed with the special sterile plaster, and they are treated with phenol again the next morning.

After that the doctor gives detailed recommendations for the care and assigns the checkup date.

The scabs that formed as a result of a phenolic pilling withdraw in 7-8 days. The skin looks much renovated already but still has a pink color. During this period, the active protection against ingress of ultraviolet radiation on the skin is necessary. Otherwise, severe hyperpigmentation may be developed. Such protection should be implemented up to the full restoration of natural color; it is performed by application of the creams with high sun absorptive factor. On average, a full recovery takes about two months.

Possible complications:

  • Hypopigmentation (loss of skin pigmentation in the affected area).
  • Ectropion (deformation and pulling down the lower eyelid).
  • Cutaneous infections.
